EcoPrint Echoes - Printing companies interested in their business sustainability from throughout Europe supported the inaugural EcoPrint show in Berlin last month. Environmental standards were covered, the EU Ecolabel got an airing with intense discussion as to the value of labels at all. Ecoprint was a gamechanger. It combined conventional trade show with wide ranging discussion of environmental and sustainability issues. This article summarises EcoPrint’s highlights the lessons we can draw from it regarding the future direction of the print industry.
Watching the waterfall - Inkjet printing is the future for many sectors of the printing industry. Inkjet heads designed for printing on pretty much anything abound. Ricoh, Kyocera, Xaar are a few familiar names in this area. Memjet is less well known but this company’s printheads have been hailed as being potentially a disruptive technology. Yet the Memjet revolution has been slow to really have much of an impact on the commercial print industry. Inkjet technology is changing expectations for print manufacturing.
Acrobat XI has arrived! - Adobe has traditionally introduced new versions of Acrobat its PDF creation tool just before the Creative Suite update. Adobe calll Acrobat “the trusted PDF creator from Adobe” and it surely is with no real competitors in sight. Creative Suite has been extensively covered in our pages, but Acrobat didn’t get updated until after CS6 came out so we couldn’t cover it. This article is devoted entirely to a hands on review of Acrobat XI and summarises what’s new.
